I studied medicine at the UAB before becoming a doctor at the Vall d'Hebron Hospital. I then took part in a training residency in pulmonology, also at our hospital. From that point I started to develop the Lung Transplant Programme at the Vall d’Hebron with the guidance and support of Dr Ferran Morell. The Lung Transplant Programme at the Vall d’Hebron was the first to be developed in Spain and is currently a centre of reference in the country. The programme helps 10 million people and is well-known at an international level. Until now I was the medical coordinator for the programme. We have also carried out very important activity in the field of pulmonary vascular disease and cystic lung diseases. Vall d’Hebron is recognised by CatSalut as one of two expert centres in pulmonary hypertension. We are also an international LAM Clinic, recognised by the LAM Foundation in the USA. My teaching experience includes pre-degree training as an associate professor of medicine. I have developed multiple postgraduate training activities, with courses in transplantation and also pulmonary diseases at an advanced stage and pulmonary vascular disease. Finally, my research activity has focused on this field, with numerous publications in the most prestigious journals in this speciality, obtaining competitive funding and directing a small research group at the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR).

I am a member of the Executive Committee of the International Headache Society and the European Headache Federation and of the Committee for Clinical Trials of the International Headache Society. In addition, I am a member of the American Headache Society.

I specialized in the field of headache in the United States and London, in the laboratories of Professor Silberstein (Thomas Jefferson University) and Professor Goadsby (University of California at San Francisco and University College London – Queen Square), with the help of the “la Caixa” scholarships, AHS, EFNS, Rio Hortega, GECSEN.

My interest in the field of research focuses on better understanding the pathophysiology of migraine from a multidisciplinary approach using genetics, neuroimaging and electrophysiology. I have developed the Migraine Adaptive Brain research program that focuses on the neurosensory brain. I am a member of the International Consortium of Migration Genetics.

To carry out research projects I have received grants from the “la Caixa” Banking Foundation, the FIS (Health Research Fund) of the Carlos III Institute, the La MaratóTV3 Foundation, Migraine Research Foundation, MICINN (Ministry of Science and Innovation) and the Mutual Medical.

I am editor of the journals Frontiers in Neurology, Journal of Headache and Pain and director of the Cephalia Area of the Neurology Journal. I have published original articles in impact factor journals, review articles, book chapters, edited books and magazines and I am the author of books.

I also work in education. I am a clinical associate professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

I studied medicine at the Hospital Clínic (University of Barcelona) from 1993 to 1999. I pursued studies in Philosophy between 1995 and 1997. I completed my residency in Pediatrics at Vall d'Hebron Hospital from 2000 to 2004. After this period, I began my training as pediatric cardiologist in the Pediatric Cardiology Department in Vall Hebron Hospital, where I specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of heart failure, acute myocarditis, and cardiomyopathies. I completed a training stay in pediatric heart transplantation as an observer at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh in 2006, and that same year, we initiated the pediatric heart transplantation program at our center. Since then, we have become a national reference center (CSUR) and the leading center for multi-organ transplants (heart and lung, heart and liver, and heart and kidney) in pediatric patients in Spain.
I completed my doctorate on "Acute Myocarditis" at the UAB in 2019 and have participated as an author in numerous scientific publications in national and international journals (https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9076-241X). I have also participated in clinical trials as an investigator or co-investigator.

Vaig estudiar Biologia a la Universitat de Barcelona (1995-2000). Des del 1999 i fins al 2008 vaig estar treballant en Laboratorios Echevarne SA. En 2006 vaig iniciar els meus estudis de doctorat al Servei de Microbiologia de l'Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, on em vaig incorporar a la plantilla del Centre Nacional de Grip de Barcelona en 2008. Fins al 2012, vaig treballar principalment en la vigilància dels virus de la grip, que va ser l’objecte principal estudi de la meva tesi doctoral. Des de desembre del 2012 sóc el responsable de la Unitat de Virus Respiratoris del Servei de Microbiologia d'aquest gran hospital. En aquesta Unitat, el meu equip i jo, continuem amb l'estudi i caracterització dels virus de la grip, especialment dels causants de malaltia greu. Per això participem amb les nostres dades en la vigilància sentinella de casos greus per virus de la grip coordinada per l'Agència de Salut Pública de la Generalitat de Catalunya. En 2013 vam iniciar els estudis de caracterització genètica del virus respiratori sincicial (VRS), i des de llavors, a més d'estar estudiant els factors virals i de l'hoste associats a major gravetat en la malaltia per VRS en menors de 2 anys a través d'un projecte competitiu, hem també promogut la creació d'una xarxa de vigilància hospitalària del VRS a l'Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona. A més, des del 2012 altres virus respiratoris han sigut objecte d'estudi, com adenovirus, rinovirus, virus parainfluença, coronavirus, metapneumovirus i enterovirus. Per la nostra experiència, hem participat molt activament en diferents brots d'origen viral, com en el recent brot de rombencefalitis associat a infecció per enterovirus A71 a Catalunya.
