I am responsible for the Mycobacteria Unit at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, which is the WHO Supranational Reference Laboratory for tuberculosis. My main line of research is the diagnosis of tuberculosis and the detection of resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex. Other lines of research are the detection and resistance of Mycobacterium abscessus complex due to its involvement in patients with cystic fibrosis and the application of molecular techniques either for epidemiology or the detection of mycobacteria.

I have a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Barcelona; I specialized in Microbiology and Parasitology at the Vall d'Hebron Hospital, I obtained my doctorate in Medicine and Surgery at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and I am an associate professor in the Department of Genetics and Microbiology at the UAB since 1997
I belong to the following research groups: The Tuberculosis Network European Trials Group (TBNET), Nontuberculous Mycobacteria Network European Trials Group (NTM-NET), Pediatric TB Research Network (pTBred), TB HIV study group in EuroCoord, Barcelona Tuberculosis recurrence Working Group and Spanish Infectious Pathology Research Network (REIPI). It is important to review the Barcelona Tuberculosis Recurrence Working Group group since all the people who work in the major Hospitals in the Barcelona area are part of this group and the said group has collaborated in different works with the CDC of Atlanta (USA).
I have been a Tutor of residents from 2006 to 2019. I have the certificate in Teacher Training in Higher Education FDES (UAB) and I had a favorable assessment of Lecturer in the Field of Medical and Health Sciences in 2019 from the AQU.
