26/10/2026 The Central Building opens its doors to the public once again as part of 48H Open House Barcelona Visita al VHIR Visita Edifici Central <> 26/10/2026 On Saturday, 24 October, the Central Building of the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) once again took part in the 48H Open House Barcelona festival. During the day, three guided tours of the VHIR Central Building took place, at 10 am, 12:30 pm and 4 pm, giving visitors the opportunity to explore the research centre’s facilities. The tours began with a presentation on the transformation of the Vall d’Hebron Campus, a project launched in 2017 with the aim of reorganising spaces, modernising facilities and creating a more people-friendly campus that is more open to the city. Participants then discovered the architectural features of the new research building and had the opportunity to explore its facilities.Inaugurated in December 2024, the VHIR Central Building was designed by the architectural firms BAAS Arquitectura and Espinet / Ubach. It received the 2025 FAD Architecture Award in recognition of its elegance, construction precision and ability to contribute to the urban environment. With a total surface area of 16,792 m², the building combines functionality and sustainability through an architectural approach that makes use of materials in their natural state, such as concrete, wood and raw iron.Taking part in 48H Open House Barcelona provided another opportunity to bring VHIR’s research activities closer to the public and showcase a building that brings together research, architecture and sustainability.
