The symposium on dementia, organized by doctors and researchers from the Neurology Service and the Dementia Unit at the hospital, together with Fundació ACE, Barcelona Alzheimer Treatment & Research Center, was also focused on the latest advances in research and drug therapies in Alzheimer’s disease, mild cognitive impairment and frontotemporal degeneration, among others dementias. In this session, Dr. Mercè Boada underlined the importance of research in this field to improve the health of patients and reduce public health costs. "It is very difficult to do science. Never say it isn't worth. Without patients, we can’t do science, and without you, Alzheimer’s disease wouldn’t exist”, said to the professionals who attended the conference. On the other hand, Dr. José Álvarez, head of the Neurology and Neurovascular Unit at HUVH, highlighted the need to create multidisciplinary work teams to tackle together neurodegenerative diseases and thus, to guarantee a better efficiency of the Catalan public health system.
