22/05/2019 Vall d'Hebron and AQuAS present the first study carried out in the State to evaluate the impact of research in a hospital center 22/05/2019 17 successful cases have been collected, which have been put into practice in Vall d'Hebron and have contributed to improvements in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) and the Catalan Health and Quality Assessment Agency (AQuAS) today presented the http://www.vhir.org/portal1/monografic_saris_5_DEF.pdf Exploratory study of the impact of research on the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, the First study carried out in the State to evaluate the impact of the research in a hospital center. It is part of the SARIS series of "AQuAS Research that Transforms".The European scientific policies and the countries of our surroundings give more and more importance to the demonstrable impact of the research that is carried out. But even though international studies show that hospitals that do research have better health outcomes, we must be able to demonstrate this contribution and improve their organization, capabilities and strategic orientation to the impact. In this context, http://aquas.gencat.cat/ca/inici AQuAS, in collaboration with the VHIR, have jointly developed this study to address the capacity of the research done at the Vall d'Hebron Campus to transcend healthcare and health improvements both in the same hospital and in any one health center.17 successful cases have been collected, which have been carried out on the Campus and have led to improvements in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases. As a result of this work, a number of facilitating factors of success in healthcare outcomes have also been identified. On the other hand, some new actions and directions are also described aimed at strengthening the capacities, strategy and leadership in this regard.Once all 17 cases of success have been analyzed, we can say that in many cases, although direct attribution cannot be mentioned, the contribution of research into healthcare is obvious. In addition, the cases studied suggest that the more focused on the practice and the needs of the users is the study, the easier it is to have a contribution in the practice of care.17 cases of success in the prevention, the diagnosis and the treatmentThe results of the cases studied were classified into three categories: prevention, diagnosis and treatment. In the category of improvements in prevention, the report includes four good examples of research: New protocol in most Catalan hundreds and a new recommendation to reduce premature births. The cervical pessary is incorporated as a tool for preventing premature birth in risk groups.Protocol for the preventive and individualized administration of antibiotics in column-operated surgery.Risk factors for neuropsychodevelopment disorders and approach to school failure in public schools.Implementation of a seasonal flu surveillance system and other syncytial respiratory viruses In the category of improvements in the diagnosis, seven cases of success were detected: New diagnostic tool for infectious endocarditis in valve prostheses or intracardiac devices combining positron emission tomography (PET) and radiological tomography (TC and TCA)Introduction to the ICS catalog of a methodology to design the most suitable treatment for hepatitis CNew technique that facilitates the early diagnosis of inflammatory myopathies in less technified environmentsNew protocol for growth hormone treatment based on the growth hormone stimulation testIncrease in diagnostic performance through the array-CGH technique in patients with intellectual disabilities, malformative syndromes and autistic spectrum disorders (TEA)Improvement of the molecular diagnostic tools in endometrial cancerNew technique that allows rapid and personalized molecular diagnosis of papillary cancer of the thyroid gland. In the category of improvements in treatment, there have been six successful cases: Improvement of diet during hospital stay for patients admitted to the Oncology and Pediatric Hematology plantNew protocol for perioperative management of patients treated with antithrombotic drugsChange in the type of surgery in rectal cancer patients over 75 yearsComputer-assisted surgery in maxillofacial operationsApp to accompany the tele-rehabilitation exercises of the strokeNew possible treatment of abdominal distension with biofeedback What implication can the search for the hospital have? What improvements have we achieved? All these projects that have been put into practice in Vall d'Hebron have made it possible to improve the care results. Although it has not been possible to evaluate what the final result of these cases, in the majority they estimate benefits, in the long term, as a result of the application in the daily practice of the results and which they could carry in a generic way: more true positive diagnoses, less unnecessary explorations and interventions, a lower rate of complications, a reduction in the number of hospital admissions and unexposed stays and a lower economic cost.Factors facilitating the success of the transfer of research to assistanceOn the other hand, the cases presented in this study have helped to detect some common factors that can contribute to translating research into practice. These facilitating factors are the design of projects with a clear practical approach, that is, problem-solving, that they are collaborative between different services, hospitals, etc ., and that multidisciplinary teams are involved from researchers and clinicians to decision makers in the welfare system, And lastly, to take in consideration the research with the participation of potential beneficiaries of the results. The evidence concludes that in order to achieve more impact, the engagement of the "stakeholders" is required in the prioritization, execution and evaluation of research. The VHIR, along with AQuAS, has begun a path to the orientation of the impact of the research, positioning us as a reference center in this field, having as our main duty our duty with the citizens and with ourselves Twitter LinkedIn Facebook Whatsapp
