The program has been directed by Dr. Santiago Ramón y Cajal and Dr. Javier Hernández-Losa and is addressed to all the specialists involved in the tumor diagnosis.

On 15 and 16 November, took place in the Auditorium of the Vall d'Hebron Pavilion, the first interdisciplinary program of Tumor Molecular Pathology Diagnosis. The act was directed by Dr. Santiago Ramón y Cajal and Dr. Javier Hernández-Losa. The program is aimed at pathologists, oncologists and all specialists involved in tumor diagnosis and has been jointly organized by the Hospital Vall d'Hebron and the Hospital 12 de Octubre in Madrid. This course is the result of the interest of its organizers in creating a program of molecular pathology with an academic focus, different from other programs of this type that are more focused on the industry. This first edition had 197 registered and the participation of speakers of international renown in disciplines such as immunology, molecular biology, pathology or medical oncology. The participation of Dr. Santiago Ramón y Cajal, head of the Pathological Anatomy Service, Dr. Javier Hernández-Losa, Director of the Molecular Biology Laboratory, and Dr. Enriqueta Felip, head of the Thoracic Tomours and Head and Neck Cancer Unit, should be noted. In addition, the program has counted with the participation of more than 25 speakers from the Campus Vall d'Hebron, the Hospital 12 de Octubre, the Hospital de Bellvitge, the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona or the Jiménez Díaz Foundation, among others. The course consisted of an introduction to molecular pathology, two sessions of review and update of biomarkers based on tumor types, a session of special interest on immuno-oncology (which is expected to vary every year) and a block dedicated to the latest technological advances in this field. The course ended with a series of interactive seminars about 10 minutes approximately on real cases in real patients where it was explained if the molecular pathology helped to improve the diagnosis, the follow-up of the patient or the change of treatment. The course has not had parallel sessions, but has had a space reserved for the industry that has focused on technologies based on NGS and liquid biopsy. This first edition has been a success and it is intended that its second edition, also scheduled for the end of November 2019, will be held at the Hospital 12 de Octubre in Madrid, alternating the different venues of the organizers of the program.
