Organitza Organitzador: Vall d'Hebron Institut de Recerca (VHIR)

Speaker: Dr. David Brea López, Institute of Biomedical Research of Barcelona

Stroke, often termed a “brain attack,” occurs when blood flow to a region of the brain is interrupted, leading to oxygen and glucose deprivation and subsequent neuronal death. This loss can result in impaired functions related to memory, speech, and motor control. Stroke pathophysiology encompasses a cascade of complex processes including excitotoxicity, calcium overload, oxidative stress, and apoptosis. These processes initiate a significant immune and inflammatory response, characterized by microglial activation, cytokine release, and the infiltration of peripheral immune cells.

Host: Dr. Anna Rosell Novel, Head of group Neurovascular Diseases (VHIR)
