The Barcelona’s Half Marathon has beaten the record of participants with more than 14.000 runners

Clinicians from the Stroke Unit at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital (HUVH), researchers from the Neurovascular Diseases Group at Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR) and management heads from VHIR and the hospital have run together the "http://www.mitjabarcelona.com/" Half Marathon of Barcelona, with the goal of raising funds for the research in silent strokes, through the web " "http://www.faigrecerca.org/colabora-vhir-donacio.php?id=71" www.yoinvestigo.org". For the second year in a row, the organization has supported the donations campaign 'run for stroke', to identify people who have suffered silent strokes but don’t have noticed it. The project is yielding the first results and it’s crucial to “make a strong prevention strategy, to avoid that people with a silent stroke suffer later a devastating stroke”, as Dr. Delgado says. Among the preventive measures, VHIR researchers recommend to practice moderate exercise.“We have run for stroke because we want to transmit to everyone, especially the environment of the patients, that it’s key to work to lessen the social, emotional and economic load that stroke entails", assures Dr. Carlos Molina, from the Stroke Unit at HUVH. He has team together with Dr. Joan Montaner, head of the Neurovascular Diseases group at VHIR, who have taken their usual way of work in the labs or the hospital rooms to the city track: "We like to run, do research with a good rhythm, running to obtain results quickly".The 23rd edition of the Barcelona’s Half Marathon not only has beaten the record of participants, with more than 14.000 runners, but also the record of time: the Kenyan Athlete Eliud Kipchoge has reached the line in 1h 4”, whereas the Ethiopian runner Atsede Baysa has got the best woman time in Spain with 1h 07’ 34”.The race in Barcelona has finished, but not the run for stroke: the donations site "http://www.faigrecerca.org/colabora-vhir-donacio.php?id=71" www.yoinvestigo.org is open to encourage citizens to join the research team and donate for stroke and other diseases that are being investigated at VHIR.
