The HUVH Biobank has been recognized for its sustainability and efficiency in laboratory cold storage.

The Biobank of Vall d’Hebron University Hospital (HUVH) has been awarded the prestigious Top Shared Cold Storage Resource, Core or Biorepository Lab prize in the academic industry category of the International Laboratory Freezer Challenge, and for being a leader in laboratory sustainability.

The Freezer Challenge is an international competition designed to help laboratories become more sustainable and efficient in cold storage, such as freezers, refrigerators, or nitrogen tanks.

“This recognition is a boost to our commitment to more sustainable and environmentally responsible laboratories,” says Isabel Novoa Garcia, Director of the Vall d’Hebron Biobank.

In 2024, more than 3,000 laboratories participated, and in 2025 the HUVH Biobank has taken part for the first time in this category.
