The VHIR Information Technology Unit is formed by an operational core of professionals who lead the processes associated with the VHIR information technology systems, facilitating the management, planning and monitoring of the subcontracted services and the projects under development. It responds to the information technology requirements of both research personnel and the research support units at the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) with regard to IT technologies and infrastructures.

One of the main objectives of the Information Technology Unit is the management of a centralised database called Hippocrates/Hypatia, created to manage all the knowledge of the institution, covering both internal and external processes. This enterprise resource planning (ERP) is interrelated with other useful tools for research personnel such as:

• VHIR Intranet, which houses different modules which can be accessed by both VHIR personnel and personnel collaborating with the Vall d’Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus. For example, it provides access to
  • The management of clinical trials under way at the Campus (Clinical Research)
  • Economic management (Econet)
  • Personnel management (HR)
  • Reserving scientific and technical services (UAT, UEB, common equipment)
• Fundanet CEIC and Fundanet iFarma, for the management of clinical trials by the VHIR Pharmacy and the Drug Research Ethics Committees (CEIm).
• Management scorecard for extrapolating indicators in real time of the activity carried out by the VHIR.
• Standardised curriculum vitae (SCV), for the creation and evolution of the CV of personnel in a standardised format.
• VHIR website.

The Statistics and Bioinformatics Unit (UEB) promotes the use and development of modern statistical and bioinformatics resources for research carried out within its remit.

The main objectives of the UEB are to:

• Provide statistical, methodological and bioinformatics support for clinical and biomedical research, mainly at our centre, but also to the rest of the community.
• Contribute to training in statistics and bioinformatics for clinical and biomedical research, through its own courses and participation in regulated training within the scope of the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR).
• Carry out innovation and development activities in the area of statistics and bioinformatics, particularly where this may result in an improvement to the functions and services of the unit.

The Quality, Processes and Documentary Management Coordination is responsible for:

• Overseeing the implementation, monitoring and updating of the Quality Management System, in accordance with the ISO 9001 standard, of the certified units of the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR). 
• Promoting the processes-based approach and its continuous improvement.
• Ensuring that the quality system of the units that provide support to clinical research fulfil the requirements of the Best Clinical Practices (BCP).
• Managing the implementation, monitoring and maintenance and update of the quality university-training system in accordance with the directives of the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency and the Catalan Agency for University Quality (AQU), together with the Education and Training Unit.
• Coordinating the accreditation by the Carlos III Health Institute as a Health Research Institute.
• Overseeing the internal audits and the relationship with external entities for obtaining quality-related certifications and accreditations.
• Establishing and overseeing policies for the creation, administration, consultation and access to information and the conservation of documents. 
• Organising the professional career certificates and the suitability of the facilities for professional development.
