Accredited Institute The Accredited Health Research Institute Research Institute - Vall d'Hebron University Hospital (IR-HUVH) is the largest in Catalonia. Awarded by the Carlos III Health Institute, this accreditation as an Accredited Health Research Institute is a recognition of the excellence of the institution's scientific results and management. The IR-HUVH was initially accredited by the Carlos III Health Institute in 2009, and in 2014 and 2019 it successfully passed its re-accreditation. What is a health research institute? The Health Research Institutes (IIS) are entities dedicated to research, created through the association with the hospitals of the Spanish National Health System, universities, public research organizations and other public or private research centers, with the purpose of establishing multidisciplinary research programs and policies, which contribute to promoting translational research. Composition The Accredited Health Research Institute Research Institute - Vall d'Hebron University Hospital (IR-HUVH) is composed by: Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) Vall d'Hebron University Hospital (HUVH) Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) Blood and Tissue Bank (BST) Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona Institute of Diagnostic Imaging (IDI) Catalan Institute of Pharmacology (ICF) First steps to become a health research institute On July 29, 2003, a scientific collaboration agreement was signed in order to regulate scientific cooperation in biomedical research and in health and life sciences, the training of research staff and the publication of publications, among the different organisms. The signatory entities were: the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute, the Blood and Tissue Bank, the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the Institute of Diagnostic Imaging and the Institut Català Foundation of Pharmacology. Integration of the VHIO in the IR-HUVH Five years later, on June 12, 2014, the IIS received its first reaccreditation and, on May 1, 2015, a research collaboration agreement was signed in relation to the Research Institute Sanitària IIS IR-HUVH, in order to formalize the integration of the Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO). On March 21, 2018, ISCiii and the Ministry authorized the integration of VHIO into the IIS IR-HUVH. Creation of the Governing Board of the IR-HUVH In October 2018, the Collaboration Agreement was signed that implements the creation of the Governing Board of the Health Research Institute Accredited by the IIS IR-HUVH. In January 2019, the first meeting of the Governing Council was held, and in April 2019, the first meeting of the Internal Scientific Council was held. On August 5, 2019, the IIS received a second re-accreditation. < > Governing bodies Governing council Internal Scientific Committee External Scientific Committee Monitoring and interpretation commission Within the governing bodies, the Monitoring and Interpretation Commission is made up of three members from each organization of the Health Research Institute. In addition, the Accredited Health Research Institute Research Institute - Vall d'Hebron University Hospital (IR-HUVH) has the figure of the Scientific Director, who alternates every year between the director of VHIR, Dr Begoña Benito, and the director of VHIO, Dr Josep Tabernero. Strategic Plan: mission The IIS IR-HUVH constantly seeks to expand the boundaries of scientific knowledge in the field of medicine to contribute to improving the care and quality of life of patients through the development of research activities in priority research fields and lines, which meet the highest international quality standards in collaboration with the institutions that make up IIS IR-HUVH.
