María Nieves Larrosa Escartin

I have a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Zaragoza and a PhD in Microbiology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. I completed the residency period (MIR) at the Microbiology Service of the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, where I currently work as a clinical head. In addition, I am a researcher at the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) and a teacher in the Department of Genetics and Microbiology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

Knowledge areas:
Antimicrobial resistance and control of Healthcare-associated infection, especially in critically ill patients. Diagnosis of sepsis and implementation of rapid diagnostic techniques that contribute effectively to the optimization of antimicrobial treatment (Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs or ASP)
Member of commissions and subcommittees of the hospital, various scientific groups and professional societies.

Research activity:
PI of two competitive projects financed by the Fondo de Investigaciones Sanitarias that study the dynamics of transmission of multidrug-resistant bacteria and the individualization of isolation policies based on the epidemic risk.

Author or co-author of numerous articles published in national and international journals.

Teaching activity:
Professor of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona since 2007, teaching in Medicine and Biomedicine Degrees and various collaborative master's degrees with other Universities.
