Narcís Saubí Roca I am a Biochemist, and I am in the Microbiology department, in the Respiratory Virus Unit, working on the isolation in cell cultures and phenotypic characterization of different respiratory viruses (Influenza, RSV, hMPV, enterovirus). I am also collaborating with other HUVH and VHIR research groups that require the growth of viruses in cultures. Previously, I was working on the development of preventive vaccines against HIV (one based on Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG), and the other based on Virus-Like particles -VLP- of the human papillomavirus) and SARS - CoV-2. In December 2021, I joined the Respiratory Virus Unit at the Microbiology Department, with Dr. Andrés Antón, to perform isolation and phenotypic characterization of respiratory viruses (Influenza, RSV, hMPV, enterovirus). It is also among my roles to support other VHIR and HUVH groups. Previously, I had been working on the development of preventive vaccines against HIV and SARS-CoV-2. The vaccines were based on the use of Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) as a vaccine vector, and on the use of chimeric VLPs (Virus Like Particles) of the Human Papilloma Virus that expressed HIV or SARS-CoV-2 epitopes. I started this research in 2005, at the Infectious Diseases and HIV Group of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, with Dr. Joan Joseph. This was the subject of my doctoral thesis. In 2019, the entire research group moved to the Microbiology Department of Vall d’Hebron University Hospital. I started my career in vaccine research and development at Laboratorios Hipra, S.A., where I worked for 13 years on vaccines against avian, porcine and bovine virus research, development and manufacture.
