29/11/2011

The Catalan Institute of Health (ICS) has organized for the fourth consecutive year a Research Forum which brought together representatives of the nine research institutes linked to health centers in the organization. The Forum, which aimed to bring together the latest scientific advances that are taking place in the organization allows to continue the discussion forum opened in 2008 on research in the ICS.During the morning, several conferences were related with some of the most cutting-edge research being carried out today. Representing Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), Dr. Jaume Reventós, head of the Research Unit in Biomedicine and Translational and Pediatric Oncology has talked about new genomics and proteomics diagnostic kits for prostate and endometrial cancers generated at VHIR. During the conference has explained how research can improve the lives of citizens and generate economic activity. As an example, has introduced a test to detect prostate cancer and how the identification of 20 genes involved in the development of endometrial cancer can develop new minimally invasive diagnostic methods and highly sensitive in the detection of these cancers.
