The American Neurological Association has awarded the research on Parkinson Disease realized by his group at VHIR

The editorial board of the Annals of Neurology, the journal of the American Neurological Association, and its Editor-in-chief Prof. Clifford Saper, awarded the “Paper of the Year” prize to a study led by Dr. Miquel Vila, ICREA researcher, leader of the "http://www.vhir.org/larecerca/grupsrecerca/ca_grups_equip.asp?Idioma=en&mv1=2&mv2=1&mh1=2&mh2=1&mh3=1&mh4=0&ms=0&area=4&grup=8&menu=3" Neurodegenerative Diseases Group of the VHIR, and member of CIBERNED. The study shows that pathological forms of the alfa-synuclein protein present in the brain of deceased Parkinson Disease (PD) patients were "http://www.vhir.org/salapremsa/mitjans/mitjans_detall.asp?Idioma=en&mv1=5&mv2=3&mh1=0&mh2=0&mh3=0&mh4=0&ms=0&any=2014&num=88" capable of initiating a PD-like pathological process in mice and primates. For the authors, these findings provide new information on how the disease is initiated and amplified. The study, "http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ana.24066/abstract" published in February 2014, in the Annals of Neurology, involved the participation of other CIBERNED groups from the University of Valencia and the University of Navarra, as well as researchers from the University of Bordeaux, France. The award will be presented during the next American Neurological Association meeting in Baltimore, Maryland, October 12-14.
