Vall d'Hebron professionals have received a grant in each of the two categories, basic research, clinical research and a grant to conduct clinical practice guides.

Within the framework of the XLIX Congress of the Spanish Society of Nephrology (SEN) held in A Coruña between 5 and 8 October, the SENEFRO Foundation and SEN have awarded 6 basic and clinical research aids in Nephrology. Three of these grants were for basic research projects and the other three for clinical research. However, it has also been awarded a grant for the conduct of clinical practice guides. Vall d'Hebron professionals have received help in each of the two categories and help to carry out clinical practice guides. Each year, the SENEFRO Foundation and SEN summon their six scholarships for euros 24,000 to its members with the aim of promoting and supporting the realization of scientific research work focused on the field of Nephrology at the national level. Since last year, a scholarship has been awarded for the conduct of clinical practice guides.SENEFRO Foundation's help in basic Nephrology researchIn the basic research category, one of the grants has been awarded to Dr. Anna Meseguer, head of the http://en.vhir.org/portal1/grup-presentacio.asp?s=recerca&contentid=186828&idrefer=186829 CIBBIM-Nanomedicine. Kidney Physiopathology of the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) for the project 'Identification of biomarkers and molecular processes underlying the progression of Dent disease for the discovery of new therapeutic targets and development of silico drugs'.In the VHIR, the investigation of Dent's disease is led by doctors Anna Meseguer and Gema Ariceta, head of the https://www.vallhebron.com/ca/especialitats/nefrologia-pediatrica Pediatric Nephrology Department of the Vall d'Hebron Hospital. His project aims to discover new genes and relevant mechanisms that explain the progression of Dent disease, beyond the gene mutation itself. Dent disease is a genetic pathology linked to the X chromosome that originates due to the mutation of two genes, the CLCN5 and the ORC, which cause renal and ocular alterations in some cases. In affected patients, it often appears during childhood or adolescence, affecting more accentuated men. But, in addition, there is an important percentage of patients who suffer from the disease without affectation in any of these genes. For the Dra. Meseguer this scholarship "represents an important recognition and gives visibility to the project and the effort that we are making from the VHIR to obtain financing for the search of this disease." A joint effort with the https://www.asdent.es/ Asdent Association created by the parents of Nacho, a child diagnosed with Dent's disease whose objective is to obtain funds to contribute to the investigation of new drugs to stop the disease and to collaborate with VHIR since its inception.Assistance of the SENEFRO Foundation to clinical research in NephrologyOn the other hand, La Dra. María A. Azancot, assistant of the https://www.vallhebron.com/es/especialidades/nefrologia Nephrology Department of Vall d'Hebron University Hospital has received a grant in the category of clinical projects for the work 'Systemic inflammation and its relationship to cardiovascular disease, loss of grafting and mortality after kidney transplant '. This line of work is led by Dr. Daniel Serón, Head of Nephrology and Nephrology Research Group of the VHIR. The objective of the project is to evaluate the contribution of the subclinical inflammatory routes, evaluated by means of peripheral blood expression arrays, the progression of cardiovascular disease, graft loss and mortality. Cardiovascular disease is an important cause of renal transplant loss with working graft and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, so the study of the factors associated with an increase in risk would allow therapeutic targets to be modified that modify the evolution of cardiovascular disease in the kidney transplant. For the Dra. Azancot this scholarship "represents an advance to study with molecular biology techniques the importance of the subclinical inflammatory pathways and their relationship with the progression of renal and cardiovascular disease in the kidney transplant patient."Assistance of the SENEFRO Foundation for the realization of clinical practice guidesThe Dra. María José Soler, deputy of the https://www.vallhebron.com/es/especialidades/nefrologia Nephrology Department, a member of the VHIR Nephrology Research Group, member of the board of the ERA-EDTA (European Nephrology Society), coordinator of the Spanish Diabetic Nephropathy Study Group (GEENDIAB ), has been jointly awarded with a grant to carry out the 'Clinical practice guide on the detection and management of diabetic kidney disease'. Diabetic renal disease is the first cause of the onset of renal replacement therapy today. In the last decade, a change has been shown in the paradigm of the treatment of the patient with diabetic kidney disease. In these sense, antidiabetic drugs have shown a renal and cardiovascular protective effect. Thus, new systematic and careful guides for the diagnosis and treatment of diabetic nephropathy are necessary. For the Dra. Soler, this scholarship "represents an opportunity to design with GEENDIAB systematically new guidelines for clinical practice in the diabetic patient, contemplating the treatments that offer patients a kidney and cardiovascular benefit."
