This donation allows the hiring of a research coordinator in the Infection in Immunocompromised Pediatric Patients group at the VHIR.

The Barcelona PID Foundation has made a new donation of euros30,000 to the group on Infection in Immunocompromised Pediatric Patients of the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), led by Dr. Pere Soler, for research on primary immunodeficiencies in pediatrics. The donation makes it possible to hire a research coordinator in this group, Míriam González, to support all researchers in technical and administrative managing tasks. She is also coordinator of the different clinical trials in which the group participates and manager of local, national and international projects of the research group.Primary immunodeficiencies are chronic minority diseases resulting from a genetic defect that alters the different mechanisms involved in the immune response, which makes the patient susceptible to allergies, autoimmune diseases, neoplasms and recurrent and/or serious infections. "They are heterogeneous diseases and, although they are considered rare when studied individually, globally they affect 1 in 2,000 individuals, so it is key to join together to be stronger", explains Dr. Pere Soler."It is very satisfying to see that we contribute everything we can to help research in primary immunodeficiencies", said Carlota Villar, vice president of the BCN-PID Foundation, who assured that in order to go far in their task, the synergy that exists between professionals from Vall d'Hebron and the family members who are part of the foundation is really important. The meeting also featured Dr. Xavier Cañas, Director of Clinical Research Promotion at VHIR, who highly valued the achievements made thanks to the BCN-PID Foundation and thanked them for their continued collaboration.
