VHIR presented the patent in Transbio Forum as a successful example of public and private collaboration

Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR) presented in the "http://www.biocat.cat/en/news/transbio-partners-present-forum-boost-new-projects-molecular-medicine-and-agrofood-innovation/feed" Transbio Emergence Forum a new patent to promote vasculogenesis after suffering acute myocardial infarction. The new technology is in preclinical development and was patented by Dr. David García-Dorado, head of the Cardiocirculatory Pathology group at Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR), and the French pharmaceutical company Pierre Fabre. The project is a new gene therapy based on encapsulated anti-microRNA to promote vasculogenesis in the damaged tissue. Dr. Neus Bellera and other researchers from the Cardiocirculatory Pathology group (co-inventors of the patent), developed a safe and effective system of selective and controlled distribution in the heart of a microencapsulated compound, which enhances neurovascularization and a better healing of the damaged tissue. The responsible of business development of the Knowledge Transfer and Innovation Unit at VHIR, Elisabet del Valle, presented this technology as an example of successful public-private collaboration, at the opening session of the meeting hosted in Montpellier (France), from the 26th to the 27th of September. Besides this lecture, the responsible of Marketing and Commercialization at the same unit, Lorena Pereira, presented the Institute as a perfect partner to innovate in health and announced the 16 patents that VHIR is about to license. The TRANSBIO Emergence Forum was organized by Transbio Sudoe, an international network funded by the European Commission, in which 32 bodies from 8 regions in France, Portugal and Spain are participating. The aim of the first edition of this forum was too boost collaborative business and research projects among leaders and professionals from companies, technology transfer offices, research centers and scientific and technology platforms.
