He participated in a symposium on microbiota hosted in Madrid and in an informative session about intestinal flora

Dr. Francisco Guarner, researcher from the Physiology and Pathophysiology of the Digestive Tract group at Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR), is the chair of this year’s "http://www.worldgastroenterology.org/world-digestive-health-day-year.html" World Digestive Health Day, organized by the World Gastroenterology Organization, the May 29. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of the benefits and risks that the bacteria that inhabit the human gut have in our health. The digestive tract harbors a huge ecosystem of microbial communities that play key roles in digestion, metabolism and immune functions. In fact, Dr. Guarner assures that “changes in the diversity and function of those communities are associated with far reaching consequences on host health and have been linked with a number of disorders, including functional bowel disorders, inflammatory bowel diseases and other immune mediated diseases, such as celiac disease and allergies, metabolic conditions, like type 2 diabetes and NASH, and perhaps, behavioral disorders such as autism and depression”. With the slogan "Protect your inner garden, take care of your intestinal flora", the "http://www.saludigestivo.es/es/convocatorias-prensa/2014/mayo/dia-mundial-de-la-salud-digestiva-2014.php" Spanish foundation of the digestive tract (FEAD) organized an informative session about intestinal flora at the Gregorio Marañón hospital in Madrid. Dr. Guarner participated in this session after lecturing on gut microbiota in a symposium for experts. Furthermore, Dr. Guarner also participated in the "http://www.nutricionpractica.org/" IX International Congress on Nutrition, Food and Diet, hosted in Madrid from the 19 to the 21 of March, with a lecture about the role of gut microbiota in the metabolic regulation of obesity, and in the "http://www.gutmicrobiotaforhealth.com/" Gut Microbiota for Health World Summit in Miami (USA), on March 8-9, coordinating a workshop on prebiotics and probiotics. In a "http://www.gutmicrobiotaforhealth.com/digital-press-folder-5639" video interview recorded at the same congress, he explained the importance of preserving the gut microbiota diversity lifelong.
