The researcher from the Infectious diseases group at VHIR will lead the 9 Catalan centers in this specialty

Dr. Israel Molina, researcher from the Infectious Diseases group at Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR) and head of the Tropical Medicine Unit at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, is the new director of the international Health Programme of the Catalan Institute of Health (ICS). The expert in tropical medicine and poverty diseases, such as "http://www.vhir.org/salapremsa/mitjans/mitjans_detall.asp?Idioma=en&mv1=5&mv2=1&mh1=0&mh2=0&mh3=0&mh4=0&ms=0&any=2012&num=140" Chagas, Leishmaniasis and tuberculosis, and with experience in Guinea Equatorial, Angola and Paraguay, will lead the 9 units of international health that ICS has in Catalonia. These units offer a wide range of services which include from the advices for the traveler (information of preventive measures for any part of the world, recommendation and vaccine administration, recommendation and prescription of the preventive treatment against malaria, advisory for the first-aid kit, and urgent visits for unscheduled trips), to the attention of the pathology after the trip. In 2012, ICS’ international health units assisted more than 30,000 people. Regarding to the type of activity, 35,165 visits were for administrating vaccines, 24.830 for trip advisory and 6.323 for attention to the imported pathology.
