Dr. Joan Pere Barret, proposed as a candidate for the Catalan of the Year 2015 award

Dr. Joan Pere Barret, head of the http://www.vhebron.net/plastica/cremats Plastic Surgery and Burns Service of the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, is one of the 10 persons proposed as candidates in the award Catalan of the Year 2015. This award, organized by El Periódico de Catalunya and awarded by popular vote, comes to its 16th edition in 2016. The award recognizes the work of an outstanding personality of the Catalan society. In this edition, have also been proposed as candidates: sculptor Jaume Plensa, actress Nuria Espert, the writer and journalist Josep Maria Espinas, swimmer Ona Carbonell, singer Raimon, the basketball player Anna Cruz, the architect and urban planner Oriol Bohigas, the founder of the NGO Open Arms Proactive òscar Camps, and fashion designer Andres Sarda.Dr. Barret, from Barcelona and graduated in Medicine from the University of Barcelona, has become a world leader in his field. He has been responsible for two http://bit.ly/1MizsQI face transplants carried out in Vall d'Hebron (in the years 2010 and 2015), and is a pioneer in the application of adult stem cells in the treatment of burns. He trained as a specialist at the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, and got a doctorate in Medicine from the University of Groningen, in the Netherlands. He is also a specialist in plastic, cosmetic and restorative surgery and intensive care specialist at the University of Texas in the United States, and has developed his work in the Anglian Ruskin University and at the St. Andrews Centre for Plastic Surgery in the UK. What goes around comes aroundThe vocation of Dr. Barret for Medicine woke up very early. He recognises that he has always had a "deep and intense desire to be a doctor, to discover the secret of life, to serve others, to investigate and heal." In fact, "I can only remember having wanted to be a carpenter like my father, and doctor." For this reason, he specially values the fact that his name appears in the list of persons proposed as candidates for the Catalan of the Year 2015 award. "This award brings together the best of our society" and "is one of the most personal and intense recognitions, as it emerges from the anonymous vote, spurred by what we, in our daily work, make them feel." Dr. Barret has already been finalist for this award in the edition held in 2011.The head of the Plastic Surgery and Burns said that "what goes around comes around, and the fact of being recognized make as a model for society." And assures that "we aspire to do good and to give the best of our capabilities. Only then you can move forward as a person and as a society." The Catalan of the Year 2015 awardThe candidates' proposal stage of the Catalan of the Year 2015 award will end on 29 February. Then begin the phase of popular vote. As of March 1, it will be possible to choose among 10 personalities proposed, eliminating candidates until there are just three, who will be the finalists. In 2013 Dr. Josep Sánchez de Toledo, head of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Service, had his career recognized with this award. Other people who have received the award are the former Minister of Health murdered by ETA, Ernest Lluch, former President of the Generalitat, Pasqual Maragall, the survivor of Ravensbrück concentration camp, Neus Català, and basketball player, Pau Gasol. The last edition was won by the religious Lucía Caram.
