The Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia has distinguished Dr. Juan Morote, co-head of the Biomedical Research in Urology Group of the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) and head of the Urology Service of Vall d'Hebron, with the Professors Salvador and Josep Maria Gil-Vernet awards. This award is given annually for the best work in Urology and involves the automatic admission to the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia to the awarded doctor. Dr. Juan Morote has won the Professors Salvador and Josep Maria Gil-Vernet Prize with a publication that analyses the usefulness of measurements of luteinizing hormone (LH) and serum testosterone as indicators of the effectiveness of chemical castration in patients with prostate cancer. The article concludes that serum LH better defines chemical castration than testosterone and therefore recommends redefining chemical castration resistance in patients with prostate cancer. Dr. Juan Morote values this finding as an element of improvement in the control of prostate cancer patients and hopes that it will be incorporated into the new versions of the international guidelines.
