Dr. Laura Audí chairs the Annual Meeting of the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology

More than 4,000 experts came to Barcelona to participate in this meeting focused in the latest advances of research in diabetes, growth and rare diseases of the endocrine system.

Dr. Laura Audí, researcher of the Growth and Development group at Vall d'Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR), chaired the http://www.espe2015.org/index.aspx" 54th Annual Meeting of the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE), hosted in Barcelona from the 1st to the 3rd of October. More than 4,000 experts participated in this meeting which was focused on the latest advances of research in diseases related to growth, puberty, sexual development problems and other disorders of the hormone producing glands of the body.VHIR's researcher gave the welcome address as president of the ESPE for 2014-2015. In her speech, she talked about her professional career in Vall d'Hebron, where she started to work with Professor àngel Ballabriga, who introduced the specialty of paediatric endocrinology in the hospital. Since 1973, Dr. Audí has participated in many ESPE annual meetings, that in 1992 and 2002 took place in Zaragoza and Madrid, respectively.Among the results presented in the congress, two studies were highlighted: http://www.espe2015.org/scientific-programme/press-releases/1-october-2015-scientists-create-insulin-producing-cells-that-may-treat-diabetes/" the first one on diabetes, led by researchers from Université Catholoque de Louvain who developed a new technique to produce cells with insulin-secretion capabilities, and http://www.espe2015.org/scientific-programme/press-releases/2-october-2015-large-scale-swedish-study-discovers-link-between-height-and-cancer/" the second one on cancer, led by researchers from the Karaolinska Institutet and University of Stockholm who discovered that cancer risk increases with height in both men and women.
