Dr Ricard Ferrer, head of the Shock, Organic Dysfunction and Resuscitation Research Group leads an intensive care expert commission created in the context of COVID-19

The commission will establish homogeneous criteria for the treatment of patients with coronavirus, among other actions.

Dr Ricard Ferrer, head of the Shock, Organic Dysfunction and Resuscitation (SODIR) Research Group of the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) and head of the Vall d'Hebron Intensive Care Medicine Service is leading a commission of a tenth experts to face the criteria for treating coronavirus patients, in order to establish and homogenize them. The Catalan Health Service (CatSalut) announced this commission yesterday, in a press conference. There were participations from the director of the CatSalut, Adrià Comella,, the director of the CatSalut Health Care Area, Xènia Acebes, and Dr Ricard Ferrer.The commission, that joins a tenth experts from different Catalan hospitals, will implement strategies to be followed in the coming weeks. The aim is to have a common point of view of resources and understand Catalonia as a single ICU, not separated ones. This commission is led by Dr Ricard Ferrer, who will articulate the decisions to be made with nine other experts: Joan Ramon Masclans, Dr. Rafael Máñez, Dr. Josep Trenado, Dra. Arantxa Mas, Dr. Josep Maria Nicolás, Dra. Maria Bodí, Dr. Dr. Pilar Saura, Dr. Jorge Morales, and Dr. Pilar Martí. Dr Ricard Ferrer was grateful to be able to use his and the other experts' knowledge available to help the country and the health system. "The advisory commission will help us to work together as one ICU, because it has experts who represent knowledge in this area", he said.Dr Ricard Ferrer has been the head of the Intensive Care Service at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital since 2016 and head of the Shock, Organic Dysfunction and Resuscitation (SODIR) Research Group at VHIR. An intensive care specialist since 1998, she has completed various management training programs at IESE and ESADE and has over 50 indexed publications in the field of critical patient care. He is an expert in sepsis and severe infections and President of the Spanish Society of Intensive Care, Criticism and Coronary Units (SEMICYUC).
