Dr. Rosa Burgos receives a Sanitat Baix Llobregat Award from the College of Physicians of Barcelona

The College of Physicians of Barcelona (CoMB), through the Baix Llobregat Regional Board, has awarded Dr. Rosa Burgos, coordinator of the Vall d'Hebron Nutritional Support Unit, with one of the Sanitat Baix Llobregat Awards 2018 to the best publication in the field of hospital care. The awards reward research aimed at improving the effectiveness and efficiency of health services. The award ceremony, which took place in the Assembly Hall of the Moisés Broggi Hospital, was attended by the president of the College of Physicians of Barcelona, Dr. Jaume Padrós.The award-winning article by Dr. Rosa Burgos is a Clinical Guide for Nutritional Support to the Neurological Patient of the https://www.espen.org/guidelines-home/espen-guidelines" prestigious European Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN). The publication consists of a guide for experts in nutritional support for patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis and stroke. Numerous neurological diseases demonstrate a major impact on the nutritional state of affected patients. Neurological diseases can lead to difficulty to swallow fluids and foods (neurological dysphagia). This problem can be a consequence of injuries suffered in the nervous system or by the action of some treatment drugs.The recommendations of the article are a consensus developed by an expert group of 16 specialists in clinical nutrition, neurology, geriatrics, dietetics and intensive care, from nine countries. Dr. Rosa Burgos has led this group to carry out a review of all studies on the subject published to date. The objective of the analysis is to answer the numerous clinical questions present in the nutritional care of neurological patients and their dysphagia problems. The methodology used has been very rigorous, following the parameters of the prestigious ESPEN Clinical Guidelines.
