Dr. Wifredo Ricart, from Doctor Josep Trueta Hospital of Girona. has won the Lifetime Researcher Achievement Award ICS, while Dr. Llorenç Caballeria, from the Primary Care Team (EAP) Premià, has won the Lifetime Achievement in Primary Care Research Award.This is the second year that a researcher at the Vall d'Hebron Hospital Barcelona Hospital Campus wins this award, because Dr. Israel Molina, researcher of the http://www.vhir.org/portal1/grup-equip.asp?s=recerca&contentid=186953&t=Enfermedades%20Infecciosas Infectious Diseases research group at Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), ex aequo won the Young Investigator Award last year. Dr. Salvador Augustin (39 years old) is an associate physician in the Haepatology Service of Hospital Vall d'Hebron and researcher at the http://es.vhir.org/portal1/grup-equip.asp?s=recerca&contentid=187010&t=Enfermedades%20Hep%E1ticas Group of Liver Diseases at VHIR. He is a specialist in internal medicine and a doctorate in medicine with a thesis on the prognosis of acute bleeding from esophageal varices. His main contribution has been the improvement of predicting risk of bleeding. His current research focuses on hepatic steatosis (fatty liver) linked to nutrition. He has published 17 papers in refereed journals, which have been cited more than 500 times.About 200 researchers from Catalonia have met in Girona on a day that has consisted of three lectures and two symposia, one dedicated to obesity and other to diabetes. Two VHIR researchers have participated. Dr. Ramon Villalonga, member of the Department of Surgery at the University Hospital Vall d'Hebron and VHIR researcher, spoke about the latest advances in bariatric surgery robotics at the first symposium.
