The aim of the EU-funded project is to achieve a high-quality, accessible and cost-effective healthcare

Dr. Josep Sánchez de Toledo, head of the Translational Research in Child Cancer group at Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research, is one of the advisers and observers of the pilot project "http://www.siope.eu/activities/eu-projects/expor-net/" 'European Expert Paediatric Oncology Reference Network for Diagnostics and Treatment' (EXPO-r-NeT), funded by the European Comission. The aim of the project, submitted by a consortium of 18 partners, is to achieve a high-quality, accessible and cost-effective healthcare for childhood cancer in Europe. EXPO-r-NeT will link centers of reference in the treatment of child cancer in order to improve access to high quality health care for children with cancer whose conditions require specialized resources or expertise not widely available, probably due to low case volumes and lack of local resource. The project is not only focused in the young patients, but also in their families: the participants will also seek mechanisms to facilitate movement of information and knowledge to help those families who will be forced to leave their cultural and language environment over many months.
