The study reviews the role of microRNAs as a prognostic and therapeutic tool for melanoma

The Catalano-Balear Society of Oncology and the Medical Sciences Academy in Catalonia and Balearic Islands has awarded with the best 2012 paper Dr. Miguel F. Segura, member of the Translational Research in Child Cancer group at Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR), for the study "http://carcin.oxfordjournals.org/content/33/10/1823.long" “MicroRNA and cutaneous melanoma: from discovery to prognosis and therapy”.The study reviews the implication of microRNAs as a prognosis and therapeutic tool for melanoma, tumor with an increasing incidence and bad prognosis. The work, published in Carginogenesis in October 2012, explains the work done in the last 5 years in the field of microRNAs and its implication in the onset and progression of melanoma. Dr. Segura will receive the 900 euros of the first prize during the II Oncology Meeting “Long survival cancer patients”, the 14th of June at Món Sant Benet.
