The EATRIS Conference “From Basic Research to Medical Innovation”, held in Rome 7-8 October, served to present the infrastructure concept of this program launched by the European Commission to support infrastructures for the biomedical sciences. After three years of frequent exchange and intense work, EATRIS wants to establish a pan-European infrastructure for biomedical translational research, providing researchers open access to state-of-the-art facilities, training and supporting services across Europe. EATRIS wants to be a driving force for translational research in Europe which will improve public health by accelerating the development of innovative diagnostics and therapies for the benefit of patients. Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), that coordinates EATRIS in Spain together with Instituto de Salud Carlos III, was in Rome represented by its director, Dr. Joan Comella, along with other VHIR staff involved in the project.
