The http://escolab.bcn.cat/en" program Escolab is an initiative of the Institute of Culture and the Institute of Education of the City Council of Barcelona, since 10 years ago, it is aimed at high school students, and vocational education and training in order to disseminate scientific knowledge and innovation. It is a unique and innovative platform based on cooperation between the educational community and research centers which offers workshops and experimental activities in laboratories led by the researchers. The Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) participates in the program since 2009 and since then more than 700 students from 20 different schools have participated. Every Wednesday which is school day, the Institute hosts some visits in which there is a theoretical and practical overview of the activity of the center and its researchers. After the initial explanation of the center, they visit the laboratorios and the scientific and technical services, where students can experience first-hand research of VHIR, close to the hospital care activity. Escolab is a regular program of the city, offering a close-up view of science to more than 47,000 students in 80 research centers, laboratories and companies with high added value in the fields of experimental sciences, technology, social sciences, humanities, architecture, business innovation, journalism, children's education and sports science, among others. Escolab was born in 2006-2007 under the Barcelona Science 2007 program launched by the City Council of Barcelona and it has grown steadily since then to have a current offer that includes more than 145 activities in 420 different sessions, which represents a capacity of more than 14,000 people this year. During this decade the program has created a community made up of researchers, organizers, teachers and students, the escolabers, which this year have been invited to participate in the photo contest at Instagram, "http://escolab.bcn.cat/ca/news/id/1508#titol" La mirada dels escolabers", with the hashtag #escolab10.
