Exhibition of finalist projects in the contest for the new VHIR building

"BAAS Arquitectura" and "Espinet / Ubach" architectural firms won the international architecture competition for the design of the new building and the proposed transformation of the Vall d'Hebron Campus

Normal1 From the 28th of July until the end of September, the main hall of the Vall d'Hebron Hospital hosts the photographic exhibition and the models of the projects selected in the international architecture competition for the design of the new http://bit.ly/1WR70M1" Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) building. The projects also had to present a proposal for transformation of the Vall d'Hebron Campus. Normal1 The exhibition, which was already seen in the http://bit.ly/2qWP1gs" Col.legi d'Arquitectes de Catalunya (COAC), allows us to review the main characteristics of the proposals presented. The projects are signed by leading figures from the world of architecture, such as BAAS Arquitectura and Espinet / Ubach, the winners, or the team formed by José Rafael Moneo, Moneo Brock and Epypsa. The team of "Martínez La Peña-Torres Arquitectos y Técnica" and "Proyectos TYPSA" were also finalists, the "Estutdi Carme Pinós" with the "Estudi PSP Arquitectura" and the one of "Josep Llinàs Arquitecte" with "Casa Solo Arquitecte". Normal1 The images that can be seen in the hall of the Hospital explain how the new research building that will allow VHIR to continue being a leader in excellence and innovation will be built, and how the Vall d'Hebron Hospital Campus will be provided with a space adapted to the needs of patients, professionals, neighbours and surroundings to continue being one of the health engines of Catalonia. Normal1 The winning project Normal1 The architecture contest, which was launched in November 2016 and was resolved on http://bit.ly/2uEctQt" last May 12, sought the best solution for the new VHIR research building. A classic design, serious and reliable, with great lights and flexibility of spaces for the relationship between professionals. At the same time, the proposal for transformation of the Campus had to take into account the creation of a unique entry way for road traffic, to allow rapid access from the beltways. Normal1 The international jury opted for the proposal of the Catalan architects "BAAS Arquitectura" and "Espinet / Ubach," highlighting its integration to the Campus as a whole and the combination of classical and placid images, without renouncing monumentality. A building with Mediterranean architecture, with only one façade and three courtyards, to enhance the spaces for meeting among the researchers. In relation to the transformation of the Vall d'Hebron complex, the project presented open it to the neighborhoods close by and resolves the internal mobility with a vertical axis of escalators that connect it with Collserola.
