The funds will strengthen research lines focused on nervous system tumors.

The eighth edition of the Fira dels Somnis, held this past May 5th in Balaguer, has raised €57,385, destined for childhood cancer research at the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR). This amount far exceeds expectations and marks another great success in solidarity. The funds will be allocated to study nervous system tumours in children, one of the most common forms of the disease.

Dr. Miquel Segura, Principal Investigator of the Paediatric Cancer and Haematological Diseases Research Group at VHIR, emphasized the importance of training young scientists and the need to advance childhood cancer research projects, which will be possible thanks to these funds. He also highlighted that "the resources will be used to implement new programs to improve the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with nervous system tumours".

The Fira, which grew this year both in participation and activities, kicked off a week earlier with the traditional "dream railing," covered the new bridge in the city with logos and solidarity messages. Local businesses and shops reaffirmed their commitment to the cause, contributing donations and collaborations.

The highlight of the event was the VIII Dreams Race, which surpassed 6,000 attendees this year. As in previous editions, the sale of solidarity t-shirts was one of the main sources of funding, with record participation making a significant difference.

The event offered a wide range of activities for all ages, including scientific workshops led by the VHIR research team, magic shows, theater, and children's games. The entire community enjoyed a morning filled with excitement and commitment to a cause that affects many families.

The overwhelming success of this edition has already secured the continuation of the Fira dels Somnis, with the ninth edition confirmed for May 4, 2025. Organizers and participants are already looking ahead to next year, with the goal of continuing to grow and strengthen efforts in the fight against childhood cancer.
