Four researchers from Vall d’Hebron among the Top 300 of the best scientists in the State

The list includes Dr. Francesc Bosch, Dr. Xavier Montalban, Dr. Marc Miravitlles and Dr. Joan Montaner.

Four research professionals at the Vall d'Hebron Hospital Campus appear among the top 300 scientists according to citations from publications based on their Google Scholar profiles. The http://webometrics.info/en/GoogleScholar/Spain ranking, which is published anually, is an initiative of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and includes both researchers who work in Spanish institutions as well as Spanish researchers working abroad.The list sorts researchers according to their h-index, a widely used system for measuring the professional quality of scientists, which is related to the number of citations their articles have received.The researchers from Vall d'Hebron Hospital Campus that appear in the list are Dr. Francesc Bosch at position 46, Dr. Xavier Montalban at position 122, Dr. Marc Miravitlles at position 225 and Dr. Joan Montaner at position 237.Dr. Francesc Bosch is Principal Investigator of the Experimental Hematology Group at Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO), which focuses on the study of mechanisms related to the pathogenesis and progression of hematological cancers, as well as research of new therapeutic strategies.On the other hand, Dr. Xavier Montalban is the Director of Cemcat and head of the research group in Clinical Neuroimmunology at VHIR. He is considered an opinion leader in the field of multiple sclerosis. He is alto the Principal Investigator of clinical trials carried out at the center, which help to find new drugs against the disease.Dr. Marc Miravitlles is an specialist in Pneumology at Vall d'Hebron Hospital and a Principal Investigator at the Pneumology Research Group at VHIR. His research is focused on the study of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and alfa-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD).Finally, Dr. Joan Montaner directed the creation of the Neurovascular Diseases Research Group at VHIR, where he is now a Principal Investigator. They focus on stroke research, from the point of view or prevention, treatment and reparation.
