03/11/2010 Identified a gene associated with progressive forms of multiple sclerosis 03/11/2010 Researchers from Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) have conducted a genetic study that identified a gene associated with primary progressive form of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and associated with males. This study, published in the latest edition of the Journal of Immunology, provides significant data on a gene called perforin, located on chromosome 10. There is evidence that this gene may be a risk factor in male patients with MS. At the same time, perforin allows stratification by clinical symptoms, so that some gene variants are more represented in patients who often suffer subtipus called primary progressive MS.
