The http://www.focisnet.org/" Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies (FOCIS) has accredited groups of immunology (clinical and laboratory) from the University Hospital Vall d'Hebron as a centre of excellence FOCIS-CE. Accreditation also includes groups of immunology at Sant Pau Hospital, the Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol, the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona and the Blood and Tissue Bank, as well as the Autonomous University of Barcelona in Bellaterra campus. These entities form the centre of excellence FOCIS in Barcelona.The FOCIS is association focused on the clinical application of immunology as a means to understand and treat immune-based disease, always seeking interdisciplinary approaches to facilitate research. FOCIS was established in 2003, and currently has 53 member associations, representing a total of 65,000 scientists.The objectives of the centre of excellence FOCIS-CE of Barcelona are the application of current and future immunological knowledge to improve health care through diagnostic services, promote research projects and promote clinical immunology as a key discipline for the advancement of translational medical research. Professor Ricardo Pujol Borrell (HUVH), director of UAB Barcelona FCE, and Professor Eva Martínez Cáceres (HUGTiP), associate director, promoted the new designation because after 8 years as a centre of excellence, initially linked to the University Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol and Blood and Tissue Bank, the project has grown and other institutions have joined that at the beginning were not a part of it.
