19/09/2017 Inauguration of the 4th edition of the VHIR's Master's Degree in Translational Biomedical Research 19/09/2017 The diplomas were awarded to the students who finished the 3rd edition and the 6 scholarships to the new students of the 4th edition who presented the best academic qualification. Dr. César Velasco, Director of Integrated Data Management and Healthcare Innovation of Vall d'Hebron, delivered the inaugural speech of the 4th edition of the http://master.vhir.org/" Master's Degree in Translational Biomedical Research of the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR). Dr. Velasco has talked about epidemics and global health and, in particular, his experience in the management of the Ebola crisis in the African continent. The event was attended by Dr. Joan Comella, director of the VHIR, Dr. Tomàs Pumarola, head of Teaching of Vall d'Hebron and head of the http://bit.ly/2wDF2Lw Microbiology Research Group of the VHIR and the Microbiology and Parasitology Service of Vall d'Hebron and the coordinators of the Master, Dr. Anna Meseguer, head of thehttp://bit.ly/2xflUpm Research Group of Renal Physiopathology CIBBIM-Nanomedicine and Dr. Francina Munell, principal investigator of the http://bit.ly/2xtBCiD Paediatric Neurology research group. The diplomas were awarded to the students who finished the 3rd edition and the 6 scholarships to the new students of the 4th edition who presented the best academic qualification. These scholarships, which cover the total amount of tuition, have been made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Banco Sabadell Foundation (4 scholarships) and the Ferrer and Roche pharmaceutical companies (1 scholarship each one). The new granted students received their scholarships from the representatives of these three companies: Sonia Mulero, Deputy Director of the Banc de Sabadell Foundation, Dr. Andrés Fernández, Director of Ferrer Advanced Biotherapeutics and Dr. Carlos Manchado, Innovation and Project Manager of Roche Diagnostics.Master's Degree in Translational Biomedical Research of the VHIRThe master's degree, assigned to the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), is an official program created to train researchers of excellence, with the necessary combination of knowledge and scientific and medical competencies to contribute to the success of the biomedical translational research of the future. The aim of the Master's Degree is to provide the 44 students enrolled with the necessary knowledge to be able to transform the theoretical knowledge of the basic research into clinical applications, treatments and better diagnostic methods that have a benefit in the health of the patients. At the end of the course, students should be able to understand the methodological, regulatory, logistical and ethical aspects of translational and clinical research, to design experiments and to identify the opportunities to transfer results to the industry, acquire a deep knowledge and a critical vision of the main challenges facing biomedical researchers. The master's degree is aimed at the research career, it gives access to the doctoral program and offers students the possibility of choosing the area of biomedicine to which they wish to specialize and develop their training and practices in the laboratory.
