La Marató de TV3 funds 5 projects in which VHIR participates

Vall d’Hebron leads two of the studies and both are on Alzheimer’s disease

La "http://www.tv3.cat/marato/projectes_financats_2013.htm" Marató de TV3 on Neurodegenerative Diseases will fund 5 projects that will be carried out at the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR) and other research centers. A total of 44 research projects of scientific excellence will be funded with the 11 million euros raised in the 2013 edition.From the 5 projects granted, VHIR will lead 2:“Efecte terapèutic de liposomes conjugats a proteïna ApoJ/Clusterin recombinant en models experimentals de malaltia d'Alzheimer”Principal investigator: Dr. Mar Hernández-Guillamon, researcher of the Neurovascular Diseases group.Budget: 200,000 euros“El paper de la reelina en la cruïlla dels mecanismes moleculars de la malaltia d’Alzheimer: taupatia, toxicitat de l’amiloide i transmissibilitat”Principal Investigator: Dr. Lluís Pujadas, researcher of the Alzheimer’s group.Collaborator: Dr. José María Delgado, from the Universidad Pablo de Olavide de SevillaBudget: 299.943 eurosBesides these projects, VHIR will collaborate in 3: “Desxifrant la relació entre la reactivitat des astròcits i el dany neuronal en la malaltia d'Alzheimer”Researchers: Dr. Joan Comella Carnicé, VHIR’s director and head of the Cell Signaling and apoptosis group, Dra. Elena Galea Rodriguez de Velasco from the Institut de Neurociències – Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Dr. Javier Vitorica Ferrandez from the Facultad de Farmacia - Universidad de Sevilla, and Dr. Antonia Gutiérrez Perez, from the Universidad de Málaga. Budget: 382.250,90 euros“Biomarcadors diagnòstics i pronòstics en esclerosi múltiple pediàtrica i malalties desmielinitzants relacionades”Researchers: Dra. Mar Tintoré, researcher of the Clinical Neuroimmunology group at VHIR, and Dr. Francesc Graus Ribas from the Hospital Clínic i Provincial de Barcelona – Fundació Clínic per a la Recerca Biomèdica.Budget: 300.000 euros“Noves tecnologies aplicables a la pràctica clínica per l'obtenció de biomarcadors d'atròfia i de lesions en imatges de ressonància magnètica de pacients amb esclerosi múltiple”Researchers: Dr. Jordi Rio, researcher from the Clinical Neuroimmunology group at VHIR and the CEMCAT, Dr. Xavier Lladó from the Escola Politècnica Superior – Universitat de Girona, and Dr. Joan Carles Vilanova from the Institut Hospital Dr. Josep Trueta de Girona. Budget: 399.969,26 eurosVHIR will receive for the 5 pojects nearly 683,000 euros. A hundred of international researchers with expertise in the field of Neurodegenerative diseases assessed the 187 projects submitted in the 2013 edition.
