'La Marató de TV3' raises over 10M euros for oncological research

VHIR researchers have participated in this 21st edition organized by TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio

The 21st edition of ‘La Marató de TV3’, focused on cancer research, has broken all records. The organization has raised over 10 million euros to fund research projects against this disease that represents the leading cause of death among people aged between 35 and 70.Once again, researchers from Vall d’Hebron have participated in this initiative. Dr. Josep Sánchez de Toledo, head of the of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Laboratory, represented VHIR. On the other hand, representing VHIO were the scientific director, José Baselga, the director of clinical research, Dr. Josep Tabernero, the responsible of the Radiation Oncology Group, Jordi Giralt, and the researcher of the Experimental Therapy group, Jordi Rodon.During all day, the Catalan public television showed several interviews of patients operated at Vall d’Hebron, such as the FC Barcelona boss, Tito Vilanova, who highlighted the confidence and professionalism that transmitted to him Dr. Maria Socorro Bescós, from the maxillofacial surgery service.Catalunya Ràdio also did a special broadcast, in which there was a report about the tasks and the challenges of the Research Unit in Biomedicine and Translational and Pediatrics Oncology, led by Dr. Jaume Reventos. The public radio also interviewed doctors Joan Seoane, Judith Balmaña and Enriqueta Felip from VHIO. The special program of ‘La Marató’ closed with 10.113.152 euros collected, but the campaign to raise funds will be open until the 31st of March. A month before, ‘La Marató’ will open the calls for funding oncological research projects.
