Messi Foundation has funded the salary of a management of patient data from clinical trials in the Group of Translational Research in Childhood and Adolescent Cancer of VHIR.

Listavistosa-nfasis11 Once again, Leo Messi supports childhood cancer research at the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital. This time the F.C. Barcelona's player has funded, through the Leo Messi Foundation, the salary of a data manager that will support during 2016 the group of Translational Research in Childhood and Adolescent Cancer of Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), led by Dr. Josep Sánchez de Toledo. Listavistosa-nfasis11 Dr. Miriam Vidal has recently joined to help the coordinator of studies on childhood cancer clinical trials. Her task will be to manage all patient data that must be incorporated into a clinical trial: how they feel, records, what is their response to treatment, etc. For her, the work is very rewarding because, as she says, "with my small contribution I'm helping to improve the lives of children, which, for those who work here, are the most important." Listavistosa-nfasis11 Dr. Josep Sánchez de Toledo says that this contribution of the Leo Messi Foundation complements the efforts of the Paediatric Oncology and Haematology Service of the hospital, the VHIR, and other associations in order "to improve the quality of care, research and welfare of children and adolescents affected by cancer and their families", and the incorporation of Dr. Vidal "improves the multidisciplinary team carrying out the research in childhood and adolescent cancer." Listavistosa-nfasis11 The group of Translational Research in Childhood and Adolescent Cancer of VHIR is investigating new diagnostic tools and new treatments to combat cancer in this age group. The group is directly linked to the hospital, which is a centre of international reference in the treatment of cancer and blood diseases in children. The Service has a unit of clinical trials for innovative treatments that allows access to the latest therapies being tested in the market, and belongs to the http://www.itcc-consortium.org/ Innovative Therapies for Children with Cancer (ITTC) Consortium. Their experience, human resources and technology allow them to offer a multidisciplinary and comprehensive care to patients and their families, covering all diagnostic procedures and the most advanced treatments. Listavistosa-nfasis11 The Leo Messi Foundation, committed to Vall d'Hebron Listavistosa-nfasis11 This was not the first time that the foundation of the world's best football player helps children admitted to the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital. Last year it funded the construction of the Espai Barça: a recreational area of 45m2 located in the Maternal and Child Area of the hospital to improve the stay and the recovery of children and adolescents admitted. The area has audio-visual and electronic games, among others, related to the world of sport, which contribute to the physical, mental and emotional development of patients. In addition to this space, the Leo Messi Foundation also funded the renovation of the paediatric emergency's waiting room of the same hospital. Listavistosa-nfasis11 In 2011, the Leo Messi Foundation signed agreements to train doctors specialized in paediatrics from Argentina at the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, among others. The objective of this project was to help provide better educational and medical treatment to needy children in Argentina and worldwide. Listavistosa-nfasis11 Finally, for more than 5 years, children and patients enjoy the children's playground in the Plaza Messi, opposite the Maternal and Child Hospital. It is an adapted games space that allows patients access to different leisure areas and develop certain motor skills. The park was funded, among other entities, by the Leo Messi Foundation, together with the hospital.
