Jeffrey M. Attended by more than 400 people, Dr. Drazen has reviewed 200 years of history of the prestigious North American publication, explaining the principal advances of the medicine with his diffusion in 4 specialized publications that are part of the history of the weekly journal.With the annual conference has finished the 6th Scientific Session, in which 60 researchers have presented their works in the categories of doctoral students, postdocs, residents and nurses. The award for the best oral communication in the doctoral student category was for Lucía Suárez Lopez, from CIBBIM-Nanomedicine with the work 'hSMC2, a core subunit of human condensin complex, is a novel transcriptional target of the Wnt signaling pathway’. This year there was a new way of presenting for doctoral students, the scientific posters. The winner of this category has been Anna Morancho, from the Neurovascular Diseases group with the work 'Función angiogénica de células endoteliales progenitoras magnetitzadas con nanopartículas de óxido de hierro para terapias neuroreparadoras’.In the category of postdocs the winner has been Marta Llauradó Fernandez, from the Research unit in biomedicine and translational and pediatrics oncology with the title ‘ETV5 and FOXM1 transcription factors are overexpressed in ovarian cancer and regulate cellular adhesion and proliferation contributing to tumor dissemination’. In the residents category has been awarded Maria Mutuberria Urdaniz, from Cardiocirculatory Pathologies group, with the presentation ‘Impact of recommendations of guidelines in patients with atrial fibrillation submitted coronary stenting’. Finally in the nurses category, the prize has been for Olga Mestres, from the health care group and the work 'Recuperaciones de la malformación de Chari i en la calidad de vida del paciente’.The day has served also to award the doctoral students grants of VHIR to Arnald Alonso, from the Rheumatology group, Irina Andrea, from UNINN, Anna Almazán and Elena Martínez, from the Research unit in biomedicine and translational and pediatrics oncology and Juan Jose Alburquerque, from the group of Cardiocirculatory Pathology. This year, the Foundation Josep Palau i Francàs also has contributed to the career of the doctoral students with a grant to Andrea Vilar, from the Neurovascular Diseases group. Finally, Obra Social 'la Caixa' has granted a the post MIR to Marc Ramentol, from the systemic diseases group.Before the award ceremony and the conference, VHIR's director, Dr. Joan Comella, has presented the annual results of the institute, emphasizing the good numbers in general despite difficult economic situation. In the Annual Conference also have participated the general manager of the hospital, Dr. José J. Navas, the vicepresident of the Internal Scientific Council, Dr. David García-Dorado, and the head of research of the Catalan Health Department, Dra. Marta Aymerich. Representing Obra Social 'la Caixa' has been Isabel Adell, director of the Institutions Bank, and from Josep Palau i Francàs Foundation Francesc Palau. The 6th Scientific Session has counted for the second straight year with the support of Roche, repressented by its general manager, Jaume Vives.
