13/12/2013 More than 70 people attend a conference about ALS in Sant Adrià del Besòs 13/12/2013 Researchers talked about the diagnosis, treatment and research in this neurodegenerative disease On November 26 and coinciding with the next "http://www.tv3.cat/marato/" La Marató de TV3 dedicated to neurodegenerative diseases, the Manuel Fernández center in Sant Adrià del Besòs hosted a conference about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). More than 70 people attended and participated asking several questions in this talk given by researchers and patients with this disorder. Firstly, Maria Salvadó, neurologist and researcher of the "http://www.vhir.org/larecerca/grupsrecerca/ca_grups_equip.asp?Idioma=en&mv1=2&mv2=1&mh1=2&mh2=1&mh3=1&mh4=0&ms=0&area=4&grup=12&menu=3" Peripheral Nervous System group, led by Dr. Josep Gamez at Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR), introduced the clinical and epidemiological aspects of this disease, as well as the information about the diagnosis and treatment. Afterwards, Blanca Wappenhans told the latest advances in ALS research, and finally, Isabel Rojas talked about her experience as a patient affected with ALS and representative of the Platform of Patients with ALS.The association of patients organized the conference, together with the Sant Adrià del Besòs city council which has started many activities and a "http://www.sant-adria.net/serveis/participacio_ciutadana/noticies/campanya-201c-la-ela-existe-en-sant-adria-201c" fundraising campaign for supporting the research in this disease. According to data collected by the Spanish Association of Patients with ALS (ADELA), nearly 900 cases of this disease without treatment are diagnosed every year in Spain.
