The award MSD Punt de Trobada HIV 2019 distinguishes the best medical care State projects in patients with HIV/AIDS

Nursing staff from the Infectious Diseases Research Group from the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), together with its counterparts at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, has won the MSD Punt de Trobada VIH 2019 for the consultation project to detect comorbidities in patients over 50, a shared care project with the Primary Care Centers. This award distinguishes the best State medical assistance projects in patients with HIV / AIDS."HIV has become a chronic disease, our patients are aging and they are fragile," Rosa Badia, a nurse at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, sums up. Together with the nurses Ariadna Torrella and Bibiana Planas of the research group on Infectious Diseases of the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) and under the supervision of Vicenç Falcó, Head of the Infectious Diseases section, and with the aim of giving the best possible care response to this reality, last January launched a project to detect, address and monitor comorbidities in patients over 50 years of age living with HIV. Now the project of this nursing consultant has obtained the second MSD meeting point HIV 2019, whereupon the pharmaceutical distinguishes the best projects of the State of medical assistance in patients with HIV/AIDS.The most frequent comorbidities that suffer from HIV are diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis and dyslipidemia, lists Bibiana Planas, but any other HIV-related illness is taken care of. The scope of the nursing consultation that they have set up is not limited to Vall d'Hebron: "The objective is to give a shared and continued attention to the patient between the Primary Care Centers and us that guarantees the continuity of the cures, "explains Vicenç Falcó.Since it was launched at the beginning of the year, 44 patients have gone through this consultation, which have been referred to the CAP if necessary. Work is also being carried out on the training of primary care professionals: every week a primary care physician and a nurse are invited to know the Vall d'Hebron project. "We want to raise awareness among the professionals who are on the front line about this disease and end the stigma, patients who suffer from HIV do not say it at first," says Ariadna Torrella. The promoters of the project argue that a change in the HIV's patients approach is necessary as long as a multidisciplinary approach is needed to ensure that those who are at greater risk of other pathologies are detected and treated. The nursing consultation for the treatment of comorbidities in patients over 50 years of age with HIV from Vall d'Hebron will also be present at the 1st Iberoamerican HIV&AIDS Virtual Congress, participating in a talk on June 10th.
