The grant will support the research on biomarkers that could help on the prognosis of rejection by lung transplant patients after a viral infection.

normal1" style="text-align: justify, Last 3rd of July, the http://www.fundacionmutua.es/FundMM/action/main?execution=e1s1" Mutua Madrileña Foundation (FMM) hosted a ceremony to deliver a grant for the research project led and promoted by the http://en.vhir.org/portal1/grup-equip.asp?s=recerca&contentid=186953http://en.vhir.org/portal1/grup-equip.asp?s=recerca&contentid=186953 Research Group on Infectious Diseases of VHIR and Dr Oscar Len, responsible for the research line "Biomarker determination for prognosis in graft chronic dysfunction after viral infection at the lower respiratory tract in receptors of lung transplant", together with the Lung Transplant Service led by Dr. Antonio Román and the http://en.vhir.org/portal1/grup-equip.asp?t=microbiologia&s=recerca&contentid=186961 Research Group on Microbiology led by Dr. Tomàs Pumarola. normal1" style="text-align: justify, This year's edition hosted the celebration for the 15th anniversary of FMM, and gathered the award delivery for social support projects and for research, at the FMM's headquarters in Madrid. normal1" style="text-align: justify, The grant awarded to VHIR's research group, delivered by the Health Minister, Carmen Montón, will support the research from 2019 to 2021, as Dr. Oscar Len details "it expects to define biomarkers in blood and in bronchoalveolar lavage of lung transplant, to characterize the patients infected by a viral respiratory infection that end up rejecting the graft, and differentiate them from the patients that do not go through this process". normal1" style="text-align: justify, The granted research line originates from two research lines already ongoing: one focused on the biomarker definition by proteomics in the nephropathy by BK virus in kidney transplant, and a second research line on viral infections in patients that have received a lung transplant. By this means, the new study will converge both topics, led by VHIR in a team with several Lung Transplant Services, including the Hospital 12 Octubre in Madrid.
