27/08/2013 Nanomedicine for treating Chagas Disease 27/08/2013 Dr. Israel Molina talks in 'La Vanguardia' about Berenice, a project that aims to obtain a more effective drug La Vanguardia newspaper has published an article about the state of research and the use of nanomedicine in the "http://www.vhir.org/salapremsa/mitjans/mitjans_detall.asp?Idioma=en&mv1=5&mv2=1&mh1=0&mh2=0&mh3=0&mh4=0&ms=0&any=2012&num=140" Berenice projecton Chagas Disease, led at Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR) by Dr. Israel Molina, associate doctor from the Infectious Diseases Service. The project aims to obtain a more effective drug: "We are seeking new drugs to improve the treatment. This drug available has side effects which force 20% of patients to stop the treatment. That’s why we are in rush to find something", Dr. Molina reports to the newspaper. To make it possible, researchers are using nanomedicine to direct the treatment to muscles, bypassing the liver. This nanomedicine research is carried out by two groups from the Spanish Networked Biomedical Research Center in Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine: the Nanomol Group, from the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona, and NanoBioCelGroup, from the Basque Country University. In Berenice project, which is funded by the European Commission, participate eight prestigious European and South American institutions. Twitter LinkedIn Facebook Whatsapp
