The parents of a patient, survivor to sepsis that was treated in the Intensive Medicine Service of the Hospital Vall d'hebron, have created a partnership with the aim of organizing sports activities and to raise funds to help in the research of sepsis, and also for the dissemination and teaching towards the disease.It is the first Association of adult patients that is created in the State to help in the research of sepsis. The Association has the aim of linking the benefits of its activities to the http://bit.ly/2tmQBq7 Research Group of Organic Dysfunction, Shock and Resuscitation (SODIR) of Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) and at the Hospital de Mataró. Dr. Juan Carlos Ruiz Rodríguez of the Intensive Medicine Service at Vall d'Hebron is the Vice President of the Association. SepticemiaSepticemia, or sepsis, occurs when the patient suffers from a serious infection and the reaction of the immune system causes a multiorgan failure. "It is a disease with a high prevalence and mortality. Every year, in Catalonia more than 24,000 cases are diagnosed and is the cause of death of more than 4,000 people. Is therefore a health problem of great magnitude," says Dr. Juan Carlos Ruiz. In Vall d'Hebron, to deal with it, there is the Sepsis Code, in which they work together the professionals of the Intensive Medicine, Emergency and Microbiology Services.The Vall d'Hebron Campus, through the Group of Shock, Organic Dysfunction and Resuscitation at VHIR, led by Dr. Ricard Ferrer, leads the research in this field. Features of the first Biobank of the State and the second in Europe specific for sepsis.
