09/10/2026 A new platform will make it possible to adapt rehabilitation to each patient’s recovery after a stroke Members of the RECUPERA project 09/10/2026 The RECUPERA project, led by DyCare and Ephion Health in collaboration with Vall d’Hebron, Eurecat, and the Ictus Foundation, will combine AI, computer vision, and biomechanical sensors to measure patient progress and tailor exercises to their needs. Rehabilitation after a stroke can last for months and take place in different healthcare settings, from the hospital to the home. However, monitoring functional progress continues to rely to a large extent on point-in-time assessments, making it difficult to have a complete view of recovery and adapt treatment to each patient’s needs. To address this challenge, RECUPERA has been launched, a project led by the companies DyCare and Ephion Health that, between 2026 and 2029, will develop and validate a specific platform for post-stroke rehabilitation. The solution will integrate digital biomarkers, biomechanical sensors, plantar pressure, computer vision and artificial intelligence to objectively measure the patient’s functional progress and connect this information with personalised and adaptive rehabilitation.“RECUPERA seeks to make it possible for rehabilitation to better adapt to each patient’s progress and continuously accompany them throughout their recovery, from the hospital to the home,” explains Silvia Raga, CEO and co-founder of DyCare. From functional assessment to personalised rehabilitationRECUPERA will combine different data sources to analyse aspects such as motor function, gait and the performance of therapeutic exercises and will develop a specific multidimensional indicator for stroke. Based on this information, the platform will incorporate predictive models aimed at estimating functional progress and proposing adjustments to the intensity, type and progression of exercises.“Integrating sensors, computer vision, biomarkers and artificial intelligence will allow us to turn recovery data into useful information to personalise and adjust rehabilitation,” says Mireia Claramunt, CTO and co-founder of Ephion Health.“Having objective data collected continuously can help us better understand how each patient progresses and move towards more personalised rehabilitation. The combination of technology and clinical knowledge is key to ensuring that these tools are genuinely useful in healthcare practice,” highlights Dr. Marta Rubiera, neurologist at the Stroke Unit of Vall d’Hebron University Hospital and principal investigator of the Stroke Research Group at the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR).The recommendations will be integrated into a clinical decision support system (CDSS), which will provide information to the healthcare professional to support their decision-making, while maintaining clinical control at all times. In addition, RECUPERA will incorporate explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) tools to facilitate a traceable and understandable interpretation of the data and predictions generated.A project with clinical validationThe project brings together five entities with complementary profiles. DyCare leads the consortium and contributes its ReHub® technology, while Ephion Health technically coordinates the project and leads the instrumented functional assessment and the development of the multidimensional indicator.Eurecat, for its part, contributes its capabilities in advanced data analysis, artificial intelligence and explainability; while VHIR leads the clinical validation and Fundació Ictus incorporates the perspective of patients and caregivers. The platform will be clinically validated in patients with stroke at different stages and in different healthcare settings, with the aim of generating evidence on its usefulness in the recovery process. In this phase, the VHIR and Fundació Ictus teams will contribute their clinical and healthcare experience to assess the application of the solution in the rehabilitation process of these patients. The programme will be developed over three years and will have a budget of €1.03 million and the participation of five entities specialised in technology, health and innovation Twitter LinkedIn Facebook Whatsapp
