The project is to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention through audiovisual capsules in patients with epilepsy.

Nadia Puertas is a Principal Investigator in Multidisciplinary Nursing Research group from Vall d'Hebron Research Institute. She has been recently awarded with Patient's Value investigation grant. This grant is coordinated by the Spanish Society of Epilepsy (SEEP) as well as the pharma company UCB. She has been awarded for the EPICAP project: evaluate the effects of an educative intervention by giving audio visual short material to epilepsy patients. Due to the lack of information and the social charge associated with it, it is thought that an educative process for patients may help them understand its illness and how to act towards improving their treatment. For achieving this objective, the group is designing some short audio visual pieces to be shown to patients. Afterwards it will be evaluated if there's an improvement in their knowledge, compared with the actual content given. This study aims to understand better how the treatment is followed and how patients are able to manage themselves among it. It also aims to be a reference for future work in this field. This grant, given by the Spanish Society of Epilepsy (SEEP) and the pharma company UCB, gives funding and supervision for developing the selected project during 2020. The project will be held by the Neurology Service in Vall d'Hebron Hospital, and will have the collaboration of the Doctor Manuel Toledo's team, who is a well-known neurologist and a renowned specialist in epilepsy. The Neurology service has a more than 10-year experience in the epilepsy field. They developed clinical trials with various epilepsy drugs, being a European reference centre in this illness. Their good results in the audits and the approval of FDA for good clinical practices do endorse the project.
