18/10/2016 The Pharmacology group welcomes European experts in a course of applied Pharmacy 18/10/2016 Besides the course, the group also organizes the Congress of the Spanish Clinic Society, which will take place from 19 to 21 October at the Vall d'Hebron Teaching Pavilion. Thirty European experts in the field of pharmacology are these days in Barcelona for the working group on Interface Management of Pharmacotherapy, aimed at professionals from around the drug field. The course is sponsored by the collaborating centre of the World Health Organization (WHO) for research and training in pharmacoepidemiology and it is co-directed by the Catalan Institute of Pharmacology, Dr. Eduard Diogène, the Directorate of Pharmacy of the RSB, Corinne Zara, and Pharmacy and Medicines Management, Dr. Antoni Gilabert.The sessions deal with the different strategies of pharmaceutical policy applied in several European countries with comprehensive exposure of different areas of intervention to improve the quality and sustainability of access to drugs by the Catalan Health Service.The workshop participants visited hospitals in the Barcelona Health Region, among them the Vall d'Hebron. In his visit, Dr. Diogène, who is also the Head of Clinical Pharmacology of the hospital, explained the strategy of deciding pharmacological treatments according to predetermined clinical conditions of the patients. Congress of PharmacologyDr. Diogène also directs the XXIX Congress of the Spanish Society of Clinical Pharmacology (SEFC), which will take place on 20 and 21 October in Teaching Pavilion of Vall d'Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus. The aim of the meeting is to strengthen the role of national clinical pharmacologists in the development of clinical research. In particular, it will focus on the effectiveness, safety and efficiency of new medicines and their role in clinical management for the introduction of new drugs in the National Health System.According to Dr. Diogène, the conference will allow experts to disseminate their role in "the generation of knowledge about drug therapy useful for clinical practice and clinical management of the use of medicines in the National Health System." For the president of the society, Dr. Cristina Avendaño Solá, this conference is being held at a moment of "passionate discussion and review of both drug research policies and access to new drugs." Besides the Congress, as a novelty this year will be held the first National Meeting of Ethics Committees for Research with Medicines and Medical Devices, that will address the work of these new committees in which clinical pharmacists will play an important role.
