The research group has launched a pilot project with 90 patients to analyse the combination of the technique of mindfulness and new technologies.

Cos The http://bit.ly/290BNoQ" Psychiatry Service of the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital is the first in the country to launch a pilot test to analyse the usefulness of virtual reality in the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The project, carried out with the collaboration of the Catalan company https://psious.com/?utm_medium=Press&utm_medium=NP&utm_source=vhebron&utm_campaign=NP%20vhebron" Psious in the Vall d'Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus, follows the line taken by the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) in the analysis of new approaches to this disorder. The initiative has received the Mobile Word Capital Barcelona award for technological innovation in the http://bit.ly/2dJHqd3" 6th Jornades R+D+I TIC Salut i Social, held last September in Vic. Cos The test used for the first time, mindfulness techniques, based on mindfulness in the same emotions, feelings and thoughts, and virtual reality technology to treat patients. Virtual reality allows professionals to use ultra-realistic environments to favour the concentration of patients. This first trial involves 90 adults, who will undergo 6 sessions of 20', which aim to treat the disorder without the use of drugs. The ultimate goal is to reduce treatment time and get the same results as with the pharmacological treatment. Sweden's Karolinska Institute collaborates in the project, which was launched in September. Cos The combination of the mindfulness and virtual reality has already been used "successfully in individual patients", as explained by the Head of the service, Dr. Josep Antoni Ramos-Quiroga, who acknowledged that they want that the Vall D'hebron Campus "to be a centre of reference in the treatment of Psychiatry using new technologies". Cos Virtual reality is a technology with more than 20 years of clinical practice and medical research that currently applies in anxiety disorders, decrease of pain in cancer patients, generalized anxiety and treatment of fears and phobias, among others. In the country have already been treated successfully more than 1,000 patients. Cos The Psychiatry Service of Vall d'Hebron is known for his work in the field of ADHD in the international arena. This project follows the line of research used by researchers from the http://bit.ly/29b2JlI" Psychiatry, Addictions and Mental Health group of VHIR, who examined the usefulness of psychological group treatment in ADHD. The http://bit.ly/2aWfoal" study, published last year by the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, managed to reduce the lack of attention and increase control of impulsiveness through cognitive-behavioural therapy group. Cos Cos ADHD Cos Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects 5% of the population during childhood, and is maintained in more than half of the patients during adulthood. It is the most diagnosed mental pathology in Catalonia among children and adolescents, according to the latest data from the Department of Health. From diagnosed cases, 25% are girls and 75% boys. The most common symptoms are lack of attention, disorganization, lack of control of impulses, emotional instability, and hyperactivity. Cos The persistence of ADHD throughout life is associated with a poor academic performance, difficulties in interpersonal relations, drug abuse and risk in driving and in sexual relationships.
