The http://cerca.cat/" CERCA Institution has celebrated the award ceremony of the 2017 Pioneer Awards in which two researchers from the Vall d'Hebron Campus Hospital have been awarded.On the one hand, Dr. Elena Martínez García from the Biomedical Research in Gynecology group at the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) for her research project: Protein signatures in uterine aspirates to improve diagnosis of endometrial cancer. "The CEMARK project". The jury has assessed the originality, the potential impact, the realistic exploitation plan and the huge work to identify new biomarkers for better detection and treatment of endometrial cancer.On the other hand, Dr. Daniel Massó Vallés del Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) for his research project: Inhibiting Myc and the Myc dependent inflammatory response as cancer therapies. The jury has evaluated the results obtained in a field of great impact and with a clear arrival in the market.A total of thirty researchers (16 men and 14 women) from fifteen CERCA centers participated in the fourth edition of these awards. By areas, 8 science projects have been presented, 14 of medical and health sciences, 7 of Engineering and 1 of Humanities and Social Sciences.The award of each prize is 1,000 Euros, contributed by the institutions and companies collaborating with this initiative. This year, the collaborators were the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI), the Cataluña Emprende program of ACCIóN, the The Collider program of Mobile World Capital Barcelona and the law firm ROUSAUD COSTAS DURAN SLP.The jury was composed of Eduard Balbuena, professor at the UAB Business Department, Josep Maria Pujals, lawyer at Oficina Ponti, Melba Navarro, doctor in bioengineering and expert in technology transfer to CIMNE Tecnología and Roger Cabezas, project director at SEARCH and responsible for technology transfer. The Pioner awards recognize those researchers of the CERCA centers who during the last 12 months have presented the doctoral thesis with a clear vocation to initiate or strengthen any technology or product that may have industrial or commercial interest, or that contributes significantly to the development of policies public.
